The Boxer Rebellion is a band that has been around for quite some time now without ever really achieving the large recognition one would expect from such a talented group. They formed in 2001 in the United Kingdom and very much so have the sound a band born of the ColdPlay, Radiohead, Oasis era would. However this is not a bad thing as they are often times a little slower and more mellow than there more pop friendly counter parts and peers. This song diamonds is a song that I keep listening to over and over, and is the first single from their new upcoming album. The song seems to hit a rather raw emotional nerve in a great way.
What do you get when you combine an amazing Malaysian singer/songwriter singer and two Canadian dub step musicians ? Magic, pure and simple magic. This song Lullabies creates a very intoxicating enchanting atmosphere by taking the existing Yuna song and vocals and overlaying it with sick beats. Yuna started back in 2006 by self publishing songs in both English and Malay from her personal MySpace page. The song Lullabies was originally released as the first song on her self titled EP, released back in 2012. This remix by Adventure Club has recently been released as a single. I hope that people enjoy this song as much as I do.
Just by the look of it, The Kickback is just getting started as evidenced by their advanced songwriting, addictive rhythmic syncopation, and killer vocals. Because a band this good, has these types of humble beginnings for only so long. There’s a time limit on this thing folks, so get in there and get your autographs and front row live show spots while you still can.
These guys, out of South Dakota living in Chicago just released their 2nd EP last year “Great Self Love”, which was preceeded only by their 1st EP “Alliteration, Etc…”. You’ll find their new songs worth setting to repeat via their Official MySpace playlist. I wouldn’t so much classify them as an indie rock band because of their style, which has more of a lazy salsa bar kind ring, spicy and well timed. Although they do classify themselves as Indie, so I’m not that far off, but then they list “Showtunes”, which I’m a little confused about. Maybe the band can email me and expand my mind on that genre. Maybe it means, “The ease with which each song can be inserted into the soundtrack of most films.”, I do not know sir.
Maybe if you like The Kickback on Facebook and comment on their page they’ll tell you all about it.
One of the dopest hip hop/glitch hop tunes around.
The track has so much depth, making great use of both acoustic and digital sound. Using this interesting blend of sound King Felix – Touching Basses – breaks the mold of typical electronic music.
King Felix makes great use of both synthesis and orchestral sounds with the use of live violin leads , vocal harmony, and a legendary 303 synthesizer for the fat basslines!
Not only does King Felix’s touching basses carry a great tune, it has a “vibe-tage” VHS video to go along with it on Felix’s Youtube and Vimeo pages. the visual effects give a nostalgic vibe and DMT like feel, plus they have videos for several other if there songs as well.
Overall, touching basses is one epic tune you have to check out !
Memphis May Fire is a post-hardcore band that was formed in 2007 under the name Oh Captain My Captain and they currently based out of Dallas, Texas. The band changed their name to Memphis May Fire shortly before releasing their first and self published album. The music is highly energetic and super up tempo with a strong speed metal feel to to the rhythm section. Action/Adventure was originally released on the bands Facebook page and is a great sample of the bands musical style. The lead vocalist provides a wide range for emo screams to hardcore yells while still grounding the sound with modern rock vocals. Give it a try and see if you don’t find yourself rocking out !!
Ratatat is a Brooklyn based duo that produces some good tunes that are easily recognizable but diverse in their minimal synthesized melodies and progressions. Their music can replicate tonal landscapes that are reminiscent of bands like Radiohead, The Strokes, Crystal Castles but also vary into different musical themes that employ melodies riffs and sounds from all sorts of musical genres from hip-hop, to R&B, to New Wave and Rock. It’s hard to find any bad songs by this band. Here’s a bunch of other great songs with music videos on YouTube that I found by them that are really worth listening to. You have to hear them to get a taste for what this band can do. Be careful not to play them all at once. 😉
I can’t help but relax as the guitar opens the song. The lyrics are powerful, and gentle at the same time. Elena Tonra, the singer, is obviously bitter towards romance. There is exploration of drug abuse, of bitter relationships and hopeless dreams.
This verse is my favorite:
Because if you’re still breathing,
you’re the lucky ones,
most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs.
Setting fire to our insides for fun
and collecting names of the lovers
that went wrong.
and you [he] caused it.
She describes drinking habits as setting fire to our insides for fun. My interpretation is that we enjoy destructive behavior because it makes us in control of our pain, even though we want to blame others. When she says that most of us are still heaving through corrupted lungs, I think of the literal corruption caused by chemicals in tobacco smoke. I could also reminisce of metaphysical corruption of the lungs through misusing the power of words.
This art is tear jerking in my opinion. Question your pain, your pleasure and the blessings left unnoticed. Even more subtly, is the idea that we cause our own pain. Even though she said “you caused it” referring to a ‘him,’ the rest of the song leads us to believe that heart break and emotional break down are caused by others, but we allow it and destroy ourselves to cope with the pain.
