Childish Gambino or as most people my recognize him Donald Glover, has been making waves in the hip hop scene lately with the release of his album Because the Internet. However with this song he makes a huge style change from lyrical rhymes to a more soulful vocals. This reminds me of a lot of the early RB and 80s pop hits with a simple bass and smooth melody carrying the song while the hook of the song is sung over and over. This departure of from his more traditional rap style is a welcome change and will diffidently resonate with a large audience. Sober could be compared to Pharrel William’s happy in that hey both a have a hip hop artist displaying a high vocals over a soft track and they are very likely to get stuck in your head.
The Sounds are a great band that have been a personal favorite of mine for a while. They are a Swedish indie rock band that formed in 1999. With heavy use of electronics along with traditional rock and adding a spice of female vocals this band a has very unique sound. They remind me of bands like The Cars, Blondie, and Garbage. This song Shake Shake Shake is the first single released off of their newest album, the album is still untitled and with out a release date. However Shake Shake Shake is a very catchy song that is a great sample of how The Sounds are evolving as a band, without losing any of the high energy their music contains.
Amanda Bloom is an artist that is breaking down the barriers to traditional music. With her captivating voice and vocal style, listeners cannot help but be drawn into the raw passion of the music.
Track ‘Fallacy’, is a rather stripped down track with just vocals and piano, however don’t let that fool you. The simplicity of the instrumentation adds to the emotion of the song and makes it hit with more impact.
Amanda’s vocal ability really is showcased on this track, listeners are impressed with the large range her voice can reach. She has fantastic control that allows for soft breathy vocals one moment and raw power the next.
Overall ‘Fallacy’ is an amazing example of songwriting at its best. It takes the listener on a journey and leaves them longing for more.
Passenger’s album, “All the Little Lights” has English charm and outstanding instrumentals! “Let Her Go” was the first song I heard from Passenger. The message in the lyrics is worth listening to. ‘Let Her Go’ gives the listener a sad yet benevolent feeling that makes it easy to enjoy. The mood could stand to be less nostalgic, but the over all song is perfect in my opinion (especially for changing seasons in fall.)
The Boxer Rebellion is a band that has been around for quite some time now without ever really achieving the large recognition one would expect from such a talented group. They formed in 2001 in the United Kingdom and very much so have the sound a band born of the ColdPlay, Radiohead, Oasis era would. However this is not a bad thing as they are often times a little slower and more mellow than there more pop friendly counter parts and peers. This song diamonds is a song that I keep listening to over and over, and is the first single from their new upcoming album. The song seems to hit a rather raw emotional nerve in a great way.
This song is the first single from Galantis, a side project created by Miike Snow cofounder Christian Karlsson. Christian is a very accomplished producer having worked on a wide range of artists from Britney Spears, Depeche Mode, Kelis, Madonna and many more. His expertise shines thru on this song as it is expertly paced and has a hypnotic beat. I find the vocals to be very captivating and the overall tone of the song to be very upbeat. Its one of those songs that gets stuck in your head all day and your day is better for it.
Just by the look of it, The Kickback is just getting started as evidenced by their advanced songwriting, addictive rhythmic syncopation, and killer vocals. Because a band this good, has these types of humble beginnings for only so long. There’s a time limit on this thing folks, so get in there and get your autographs and front row live show spots while you still can.
These guys, out of South Dakota living in Chicago just released their 2nd EP last year “Great Self Love”, which was preceeded only by their 1st EP “Alliteration, Etc…”. You’ll find their new songs worth setting to repeat via their Official MySpace playlist. I wouldn’t so much classify them as an indie rock band because of their style, which has more of a lazy salsa bar kind ring, spicy and well timed. Although they do classify themselves as Indie, so I’m not that far off, but then they list “Showtunes”, which I’m a little confused about. Maybe the band can email me and expand my mind on that genre. Maybe it means, “The ease with which each song can be inserted into the soundtrack of most films.”, I do not know sir.
Maybe if you like The Kickback on Facebook and comment on their page they’ll tell you all about it.
