This is my favorite Kid Cudi song and Steve Aoki’s remix of the song kicks it up a notch with a fat chorus beat so thick you can beat a horse with it. I love the way the song lulls down just long enough to slow you down and then slams you with the big house sound. I recommend trying to do something that you normally do during your day that’s boring and suddenly the task will appear enjoyable and you’ll wonder if you ever had it so good. The best part of wake’n up is fat beats in your cup.
Massive Attack has been a mainstay band in my music collection for many years. I wanted to add one of their songs here as I believe they still remain a lesser known band among most North Americans. This song of theirs is one that I find enchanting in the way its syncopated clapping and open minimalistic rhythm create a landscape of sound that is almost visible. The explanatory instructive lyrics of warning wax clairvoyant. As I listen to the song today it provokes images in my mind as though it were the soundtrack to the dramatic bittersweet end to a film about love, struggle, and passion.
The song is powerful in many ways and was produced with excellence. I think Massive Attack is moving into ever more meaningful territory with this album, which I also felt with their release of 100th Window which has one of my favorite songs Small Time Shot Away.

Relax, sit back and let the day unwind, let go of the struggle and enjoy the moment. Lips Songs brings the gentle casio synth into the background of our day like a soft breeze on a cool august evening. The minimalistic and humble pace of this Brooklyn New York solo artist is true easy listening. There’s a slight Corrine Bailey Rae cuteness that is inexorable but pleasant and brings an sweet innocence to the tracks. You could just reach out and pinch the song’s cheeks.

Lourdes Hernández is the heart and soul of Russian Red. I heard this beautiful song of hers while watching the film Room in Rome. Her simple but touching acoustic love songs contain a genuine sweetness and innocence made unforgettable by her talented and ranged voice. Although from Spain Lourdes sings in English to allow wider reception and understanding of her music. Listen to more of her songs on the Russian Red’s MySpace page and learn more at the Eureka Records music page for Russian Red.
The Hold Steady’s new album Heaven is Whenever released last year is the next level up for the indie rock band from Brooklyn, NY. The band is touring the US right now so check out their official The Hold Steady website for tour dates, videos and more.
The band has done a couple music videos, but if you do some YouTube searches you’ll find a ton of fan made ones which came from a video contest they held. Other great songs of their to check out are:

Hello Vegas is actually from Los Angeles, under their own Treehouse Vibrations Group record label. The four man group consisting of Adam Reiter, Jason Pavilanis, Jesse Gurtis, and Zach Davis recently released their latest song “No One Knows” for free download.
Their music is a free living LA indie rock blend of clean rising guitar riffs and wind swept vocals. Their tracks sound like a live show on a grassy hill on a sunny west coast evening. The melodic sweeps and soft vocal interludes feels a bit like the Inspiration of Christian Rock mixed with the smooth easiness of classic soft rock, however, they are far from a Christian band (which makes me wonder what it would mean to be the farthest possible thing from a Christian band… imagination gears turning). The band keeps a fresh profile and
I’m sure would love to connect with you on their Twitter on Facebook page which serves as their official site. For a kick you’ve gotta check out their concert posters and band images on their MySpace page. These guys have a great sense of humor. And just because they sent it to me, here’s their band photo, featuring several tenacious neck beards.
Morgan Kibby singular talent and creator of White Sea, a new addition to the indie pop music scene. Her voice debuted on M83’s synth pop album Saturdays = Youth, which features one of my favorite songs We Own the Sky.
Whitesea is playful and intimate, invites us to come and join the party, but is also mature and carefully layered. Understanding that Whitesea emerged from the inspired vision of Morgan Kibby waiting patiently to emerge from within her as she taught herself how to use ProTools after touring with M83 in 2008. You can imagine the thoughts one might have while teaching themselves how to use a program while knowing that after understanding how to use it you can create your dreams. Like an violist having to learn how to build their violin before being able to play.
What’s more, her EP titled “The Frontier is available for download for free from the UrbanOutfitter’s website.
